GLASGOW- On Saturday February 5, 2011 the Glasgow and Natural Bridge Fire Departments braved cool temperatures and a steady morning mist and spent a good part of the day training. The departments were able to use an abandoned structure on River Road to work on various firefighting skills and using newly purchased equipment.
The members under the direction of the department officers were able to conduct training on the use of SCBA’s, drafting, water relay, pump operation, and firefighting skills which include nozzle operation, ventilation, and salvage & overhaul. Junior members were on scene and they were able to observe how firefighting activities are conducted. The training began at 0800 and continued until early afternoon. Chief Ricky Taylor and Chief Gomez Lee said the training was beneficial to new members and also allowed veteran members to refresh their firefighting skills.
The Glasgow Rescue Squad provided medical support to the event, providing rehab to the firefighters throughout the day. This type of joint training will continue to benefit the citizedns of the county as the firefighters continue to improve their skills and knowledge.
